About

The personal and powerful accounts of our military veterans provide just a glimpse of the sacrifice these men and women have given.

Kansas City PBS is committed to telling and sharing the stories of Kansas City's military veterans. This site is dedicated to those stories, conversations and initiatives that bring our community together to honor and better understand what it means to serve. It also reflects KCPBS’s collaborations with national initiatives like The Telling Project, Veterans Coming Home and PBS Stories of Service.

In preparation for the September 2017 broadcast of The Vietnam War, the new documentary series by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, KCPBS is focusing its veterans coverage on the conflict in Vietnam. Alongside national videos and articles from that series, you will find stories by area veterans, civilians and Vietnamese refugees that will give insight into the Vietnam War’s legacy and impact on Kansas City. Participate by sharing your story.

KCPBS’s work with veterans’ stories and topics could not be done without these community partners:

Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth
Kansas City Public Library
National Archives at Kansas City, Missouri
National World War I Museum and Memorial
Mid-Continent Public Library
United Way of Kansas City - Veterans Alliance
